For most people, most of the time, taking in the resonant sounds of singing bowls, gongs, and other healing instruments meant to do some amazing things in your body and mind, sometimes there is an exception.  Or there might be a bowl or recording that just doesn’t sit right with a person.

Have you had that experience?

It happens and there’s an explanation you need to know about because underlying it, there is a message you need to personalize if you’ve had this experience.

But first, let me make a disclaimer.  Assuming the sound healing tools aren’t too loud, overpowering in the space you’re in, or the instrument isn’t impaired such as cracked or dented.  These circumstances could cause a distorted and disruptive sound to be produced which isn’t healthy for you.  I’m also not discussing music, which has its own set of “good & bad” sounds which some are definitely not healthy sounds for you.

If we assume, then, that you aren’t listening to sound healing that is one of the conditions I mention and you are not reacting well to the sound, it means you have one or more issues in your body and/or mind that exist.  You are out of resonance.  You may or may not be aware of these conditions.

When you are out of resonance with the sounds of sound healing, what you hear sometimes or what you feel (or both) can feel uncomfortable until you come back into resonance or balance.

When will you get back into resonance?

It’s hard to know.  I’ve seen most people work through these things within a single 30-minute sound bath & meditation.  They start out feeling like many bowls I strike are sounding bad and then within a short time, they love everything they hear.  I’ve also had one or two people struggle with sound baths, perhaps not all of them.  Those people tended to have perpetual upheavals in their lives, so I think it was difficult for them to build on any improvements.

The uncomfortable feeling or sound is something I often compare it to an injury.  It doesn’t feel good, and you must compensate for it.  You feel off due to the injury.  When sound is interacting within you and you are energetically out of balance, your body is going to respond to put things in order. You are going to feel off until the issue is resolved.  One sound bath or therapy session may not be enough to work through what is taking place.  It will most of the time but not always.

Another situation may contribute to the uneasy feeling when taking in Sound Healing.

If a person has experienced trauma or shock and their body is experiencing physical symptoms as a result, sometimes these people can feel very sensitive and uncomfortable with Sound Healing.

My suggestions for both types of people are the same.

  • Take Sound Healing in smaller “doses”.  In other words, get your body and brain used to the frequencies, sound, and vibration by listening to recordings using earbuds or headphones for a short amount of time.  Take in the stress reduction recording for 5 minutes and stop there.  Do it daily for a week and then increase it to 10 minutes.  Look for the moment when the sound starts mellowing out.
  • Use Guided Meditations.  Changes are high you are also struggling with staying focused while meditating because of focusing on the sound and how it feels.  A guided meditation gives you something besides your own thoughts to focus on, stay present, and provide positive messages for reinforcement.
  • Body & Mind Reset?  You should consider what is taking place in your life that might be causing issues in your mind and body.  Maybe you already have issues you know about in mind and body.  If so, even more reason to access Sound Healing.  You might have a challenge to stay ahead of the build-up in your body if you can’t control the issues in your life.  But it does suggest you need to establish a routine for removing tension and emotional chemicals which Sound Healing does gently and effectively.

If you are one of the few people who find Sound Healing hit a bad note, you need to think of it as a wake-up call from your body.  Keep at it.  Removing the build-up of tension, stress, and emotion is like removing layers of an onion.  With each layer you remove with Sound Healing, you’re making progress to your best self.
