That’s a big: Y-E-S!
Many people get Tibetan Singing bowls because they sound great, and you can feel them all the way to your soul. Then, they think one would be great for meditation or sound healing.
They were correct to think that but quickly a few things sunk in:
- The sound doesn’t last long enough for the meditation to continue without actively engaging with the bowl. It is not exactly the transcendent experience you were hoping for and does not allow you to disengage. You’d have to be satisfied with a single strike without an alternative.
- You realize you don’t know what to do for sound healing and engage your intuition for guidance. Maybe it does and maybe it doesn’t.
Once these realities set in, disappointment follows and soon the bowl is sitting on the shelf being ignored.
Let me quickly address the meditation support. A single bowl and a single bowl strike from you will never sustain a sound more than about a minute. If you need more than that for meditation, you’d be better off using a recorded sound bath with Tibetan singing bowls. There are several to pick from in the Aurras library: https://aurras.com/sound-healing-library/
But for sound healing, let’s start at the beginning: What are you working on changing within you? I ask because I believe you start with an intention combined with a set of actions.
EX: If you’re the type of person who is stressed out and feels it in your body, maybe your neck, shoulders, and even your face feel tense. Or perhaps your mid-section. You now have 2 pieces of information. 1- stress 2- location of where you are carrying it.
You want to know these things because your sound healing allows you to focus your work on the area and the feeling that needs to be changed.
Staying with stress in the neck, shoulder, and face. You would want to strike and hold your bowl closest to those spots. This may take some practice. Don’t keep your bowl in one position, strike it and move it to various points in your area of tension or stress, leaving it in each position long enough for the vibration and sound to penetrate. You may want to scan your entire body for a while and return to your areas of stress before you are complete.
I do understand that sometimes you may simply want to use your bowl to feel good without any other intention than that. Why not? In that case, you may want to play around with putting the bowl on your legs and torso to strike. There’s nothing better than direct contact with a vibrating Tibetan singing bowl. Once you’ve run out of spots to balance the bowl on your body, then you can pick it up and hold it in front of your face, head, and crown.
With any of your scans, the amount of time you spend is up to you. I believe your intuition will guide you. Also, as you gain experience you will want to pay attention to how you respond. If you don’t notice a difference in your tension, you may want to increase your time and ensure you are staying present with your experience.
We all have the power to heal ourselves and sound healing can help you, so go ahead and use that bowl!
